Section 7: CHEERLEADING APPAREL REQUIREMENTS
A ten-point (10) deduction will be given for each uniform violation. As a safety measure, we encourage each team to bring an alternate, conservative uniform in the event if a warning or penalty is assessed. The following guidelines should assist in defining what is appropriate, but should not be deemed a comprehensive and exclusive list. What is appropriate includes but is not limited to the list below.
All
1. No risque, sexually provocative or lingerie-looking or inspired uniform or garments.
2. Garments / items should be secure to eliminate any possibility of "wardrobe malfunction". Tear-away uniforms are illegal.
3. Appropriate undergarments must be worn.
4. A single / partial manufacturer or sponsor's logo / patch / name (no dimension exceeding credit card size of 2¼ inches x 3¼ inches) is permitted on the apparel but is subject to CHARM's / the event organiser's prior approval.
Female Tops
1. Standard shell, crop, or midriff top. No midriff-baring outfits - crop and midriff tops must be worn on top of a bodysuit. When standing at attention or with hands stretched upwards (in touchdown position), apparel must cover the midriff.
2. No "bra top" style or size tops - material must fall at least one inch below the bra line.
3. No low cut necklines.
4. No sheer, excessively bare or backless style tops. Bare or backless style tops must be worn on top of a bodysuit.
5. Must have solid material around the back.
6. No "tube tops".
7. Must be secured by straps or material over at least one shoulder or around the neck.
Female Skirts
1. Due to religious and cultural sensitivities in the country, it is advised that skirts must be pleated. No A-line, straight cut or tight skirts are allowed.
2. Skirts must not be longer than 4 inches from the knee when the cheerleader is kneeling on the floor and measurement must be taken from the floor to the hem of the skirt at the front.
a. Primary and secondary school items - skirts must not be longer than 4 inches or shorter than 7 inches from the knee when the cheerleader is kneeling on the floor and measurement must be taken from the floor to the hem of the skirt at the front.
b. Tertiary level / All-Star teams - skirts must not be longer than 4 inches or shorter than 9 inches from the knee when the cheerleader is kneeling on the floor and measurement must be taken from the floor to the hem of the skirt at the front.
c. International teams - no length limits for skirts.
3. Must fully cover the hips.
4. No excessively short or tight skirts.
5. No ultra low-rise waistbands (no lower than 2 inches below the navel).
6. Tights, whether ¼-, knee- or full-length, must be worn underneath the cheerleading skirt. The bodysuit / leotard must not be worn over the tights. Cheerleader bloomers / spankies / briefs / tillies / tennis panties and anything else that is shorter than ¼-length tights are not allowed.
Male Tops
1. Must be full torso length, covering shoulders to waist and / or the top of the uniform bottom in standing position.
2. Must be short or long sleeves, covering at least midway between shoulder and elbow.
3. May be round or V-neck.
4. No baggy shirts.
Male Bottoms
1. If full length pants, must cover waist to feet.
2. If shorts, must fall no higher than the mid-thigh. Cycling tights or ¼-length tights must be worn underneath the shorts.
Cheer Foorwear
1. No barefeet.
2. Soft-soled athletic shoes must be worn.
3. No gymnastics shoes, jazz shoes / boots.
