General Tips (rock.A.cheer)

Being a cheer company, we travel to many schools to provide our services. One of which being as important as the routine itself is the cheer uniform. We have met and went through many creative designs and also have encountered many mistakes cheerleaders make when deciding on the cheer uniform. For example, the material of the uniform looks cheap and tears off easily, uniforms don't fit and the colors are not what the team had had their hearts for.

In rock.A.cheer, we try to advise our clients regarding their "wants" in cheer unforms to avoid situations as mentioned above. We believe that this is a major decision for most squads and warrants a lot of thought and discussion. We researched and came up with some advice and tips in choosing a cheerleading uniform to avoid headaches and heartbreaks.

The very first step and an important one in deciding on a cheer uniform is the "style selection" step. In order to start off, these are the points you need to check upon when deciding on the cheer uniform.

Company / Tailor

Be familiar with the company or tailor which you will be working with. If possible, ask people for references. From a company, request catalogs and study the company's policy. Understand their terms and conditions as well as return policy.

Price

Set a budget after a meeting with every team member to figure out how much can be spent per person (do not leave even one member out of the budget consideration). Negotiate discounts and best prices with the tailor or company which you are dealing with.

Dress Code / Cheer Uniform Rules

Most schools (during sports day) and national cheer competitions have strict requirements in cheer uniforms. Make sure you and the team is well aware of the rules. Skirt length and midriff tops are just two areas that will need special attention in fulfilling the requirements.

Comfort

Cheerleading uniforms should not be comfortable to wear, particularly during jumping and stunting in a routine. A comfortable uniform will not restrict motion or movement of a cheerleader. Comfort also encompasses the way cheerleaders feel when wearing their uniform, tugging and pulling of the uniform should be a definite "no no".

Style

It is extremely important to choose a style which would look good on the whole team. Serious consideration on their body types and figures should be noted. A good uniform not only functions well with the routine but compliments the wearer as well.

Material and Fabric

The fabric should not only look good but add to the comfort of the uniform. It should be easy to care for and the material should be colourfast. If there are labels, read them and if not, ask the sales representative (take note on how it should be washed: dry clean or normal wash).

Versatility

Being versatile can result in extra costs. Check if a little change on some part of the uniform will produce a new look.

Colour

Always double check the colours to make sure they match your team's colour. A shade or two off can make a big difference in how the squad appears from the spectators.

Size

Measure accurately. If the team have decided on using "jersey" material, the uniform should fit perfectly on the wearer.

Embroidery / Printing

There should only be 3 or less different embroidery / printing on the uniform.

1. Name of the team - either printed or embroidered at the back of the uniform or the front, and it should be the biggest font comparing to the printings and embroidery as it is a sign of recognition.

2. Logo of the team - A logo is always welcome. Either at the back or front or even on the skirts. It should compliment the uniform, not clash with the uniform design.

3. Name of cheerleaders - The only reason for printing names on uniform is purely for identification and for the satisfaction of the cheerleader having a cheer uniform. It should not be as big as the teams' name as this will cause confusion. REMEMBER: Cheerleading is a team effort, not an individual performance.

Payment

Enquire about payment. rock.A.cheer works with 2 installments. We require half the payment before receiving the merchandise and another half after receiving the merchandise.

Delivery

Take note on when the team will be receiving their uniforms. Get a firm date and estimate of delivery.

Don't Assume

Ask a sales representative or customer service representative if there are any doubts. Don't think you are bothering them (us), it is their (our) job to ensure you are confident with your order.

Refunds and Returns

Understand the return policy carefully. Custom made uniforms are not returnable or exchangeable.

With these tips and advices, rock.A.cheer hopes your squad will experience the excitement the first time they put on their cheerleading uniforms!
